The Chess application is allows users of Java based RIM devices to play chess wirelessly. You can invite people by e-mail and play multiple games at once. Whenever a move from your opponent arrives, you're notified and can respond. The application comes with a free sample selection of puzzles, which has to also be placed to the application directory. Additional databases of puzzles can be purchased and downloaded separately.
