Antique Typewriters 18th century or early 19th century old antique typewriters Antique Typewriters
Antique, circa 1889 National Typewriter, invention credited to Henry Harmon Unz of Philadelphia, PA. Serial #1174. An early model with the small, thumb size, spacebar. Decorated top deck and with a curved keyboard. This is the rarer and hardest to find version of the National typewriter. Another unique feature of this rare example is that it is one of the few (if not the only) understrike typewriters where the entire keyboard shifted when the shift key was depressed. One of the great examples of early typewriter design and certainly one of the most sought after.
